Luton Airport Drop-Off Charge 2026: £9, How to Pay and the Free Option

Most pages still say £7. Luton's drop-off charge is now £9 for 12 minutes, paid online by midnight the next day. Here's how it works and how to avoid paying it at all.

How much is the Luton Airport drop-off charge?

The Luton Airport drop-off charge is now £9 for up to 12 minutes in the Drop Off and Pick Up Zone, then £1 for every extra minute, with a maximum stay of 30 minutes. That is the figure on London Luton Airport's own website as of September 2026.

If you have seen £7 for 10 minutes quoted elsewhere, that was the old rate. Plenty of pages still say it. Budget for £9.

Where is the drop-off zone?

Use the postcode LU2 9QT. As you approach the roundabout before the tunnel, ignore your sat nav and follow the road signs for Drop Off / Pick Up. The zone has two entrances, and either one works, so use whichever has the shorter queue.

From the zone it is roughly a five-minute walk to the terminal. It is not right outside the doors, so if you are dropping off someone with heavy bags or limited mobility, allow for that.

How do I pay?

There are no barriers and no machines. Cameras read your number plate on the way in, and you pay online by midnight the following day. Nobody reminds you. Set a phone reminder before you pull away.

Stay longer than 30 minutes and an enforcement charge of £95 applies, reduced to £55 if paid within 14 days. You must not leave the car unattended in the zone at any point.

Is there a free drop-off at Luton?

Yes. The Long Stay Car Park is free for up to two hours (£7 for three hours). A free shuttle runs from Bus Bay B roughly every 20 minutes, and the ride takes about ten minutes.

So the free option costs you around half an hour once you add the wait and the ride. For an early flight or a traveller with children and bags, £9 is often worth it. For a relaxed afternoon departure, the free option is fine.

What about Blue Badge holders?

There is no Blue Badge concession in the main Drop Off and Pick Up Zone. Blue Badge holders, and passengers with booked assistance, get 30 minutes free in Terminal Car Park 1 instead, which is also closer to the terminal. Check the airport's accessibility pages for the current terms before you travel.

How to avoid the drop-off charge altogether

  • Drive yourself and park. If you are the one flying, Luton airport parking removes the drop-off question completely, and nobody has to do the round trip twice.
  • Meet & Greet. With Luton Meet & Greet a driver takes your car at the terminal. There is no second car and no drop-off zone to pay for.
  • Book a transfer. A pre-booked Luton airport transfer collects you from home. Drivers entering the drop-off zone are charged like anyone else, so check whether the fee is included in the quote you are given.
  • Use the free Long Stay drop-off. Free for up to two hours, with a ten-minute shuttle.

Drop-off charge vs parking: a quick comparison

A lift to Luton sounds free until you count it properly. The driver pays £9 on the way out and faces the same question when they collect you, as well as two return journeys' worth of fuel and time. For a week away, compare that with the price of parking for your dates before you ask someone for a favour. Our first-timer's guide to Luton parking covers how the options work.

The short version

£9 for 12 minutes, then £1 a minute, 30 minutes maximum. Pay online by midnight the next day. Postcode LU2 9QT. Free for up to two hours at Long Stay, with a shuttle from Bus Bay B. Airport charges change, so check the airport's drop-off page the week you fly.
