Luton Airport Parking: A First-Timer's Guide

One terminal, one shuttle route, and no train leg between terminals. Luton is simpler than Heathrow in almost every way - here is what a first-timer needs to know.

Luton has one terminal, and that simplifies everything

If you have flown from Heathrow, half of what you learned there does not apply. Luton operates a single passenger terminal. There is no terminal to select when you book, no risk of a driver waiting at the wrong one, and no train leg between terminals.

One shuttle route, one meeting point. It genuinely is simpler.

You will still be asked for your flight number, so your return can be tracked.

Park & Ride at Luton

You drive to the compound, park in a marked bay and keep your own keys. A shuttle runs between the car park and the terminal, usually around ten minutes. Your car stays where you left it, under CCTV, for the whole trip.

Call the car park roughly 20 to 30 minutes before you arrive so someone is ready to meet you. Then allow about ten minutes for the shuttle on top of normal check-in, and more at peak times when the bus fills quickly.

Meet & Greet at Luton

You drive to the terminal at the time you booked. A vetted, insured driver meets you, helps with the luggage, checks the car over with you and takes the keys. You walk to check-in. Your car goes to a secure, CCTV-monitored compound and comes back to the terminal when you land.

Call about 20 minutes before you reach the terminal so the driver is in position.

Which should a first-timer book?

At most airports this is a clear trade-off between price and convenience. At Luton the gap between the two services is smaller than at most airports, so it is genuinely worth comparing live prices for your specific dates rather than assuming Park & Ride will be cheaper.

Book Park & Ride if you would rather nobody else drove your car, or you are not in a hurry. Book Meet & Greet if you have small children, heavy bags, or an early flight where ten minutes at a shuttle stop feels like an hour.

Unlike Heathrow, there is no airport car park charge

Worth knowing if you are comparing the two airports. At Heathrow, Meet & Greet handovers happen inside the airport's own short-stay car park and Heathrow charges its own fee - around GBP 8.00 for up to 30 minutes, each way.

Luton's arrangement does not work that way, so the price you compare is closer to the price you pay.

What to have ready

  • Your booking reference - it is in your confirmation email.
  • Your keys, and any unusual starting instructions if the car has them.
  • The car park's phone number, saved in your phone rather than sitting in an inbox you cannot reach on airport wifi.
  • Valuables with you, not in the glovebox.

Coming home

Call once you have your baggage and are ready to leave the terminal.

For Park & Ride, board the return shuttle from the terminal stop, show your ticket at the barrier, and collect your car. For Meet & Greet, your car is brought back to the terminal.

Incoming flights are monitored, so a delay or an early landing is normally known about before you are through the door.

Can I cancel?

Cancellation cover is available at checkout for GBP 2.00. Notice periods are set by each operator and shown in the terms on the car park you choose. Read those before you pay rather than after - it is five minutes that occasionally saves a great deal of irritation.

The first-timer's summary

One terminal. Ten-minute shuttle. Call ahead - 20 minutes for Meet & Greet, 20 to 30 for Park & Ride. Compare both services on price, because at Luton they are closer than you would expect. And save the car park's number before you set off.
